English: Marine Corps Gen. John R. Allen, commander of NATO and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan, presented the Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor to Air Force Capt. Darrel A. DeLeon, during a ceremony at ISAF Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan, Sept. 25. Deployed as a rule of law liaison officer to ISAF HQ, DeLeon, a 22-year-veteran, used his 14 years of prior service as a U.S. Army medic to render first aid to soldiers injured during a personal-borne improvised explosive device and small arms fire and grenade attack at Camp Phoenix in Kabul, April 2. DeLeon is credited with treating and pulling to safety three U.S. soldiers. The captain, a 1988 Skyview High School graduate from Billings, Mont., is a GPS mission crew commander deployed from the 2nd Space Operations Squadron, Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colo.
