Deutsch: Inschrift der Tafel: „Hier, in der Nähe des Mainzer Tores an der Stadtmauer der nördlichen Vorstadt, stand die Meielburg, der burgartige Wohnsitz des Juristen Dr. Balthasar Meiel, Mitglied des Wormser Stadtrates (seit 1502) und bis zu seinem Tod 1525 Schultheiß (Vorsitzender des Stadtgerichts).
In der Meielburg betrieb Peter Schöffer d. J. aus Mainz (ca. 1475/1480–1547) von ca. 1518 bis 1529 die erste Wormser Druckwerkstatt. Hier wurden 1526 ,The newe Testament‘ von William Tyndale (erster vollständiger Druck des Neuen Testaments in englischer Sprache), 1527 die ‚Wormser Propheten‘ (Übersetzung der Prophetenbücher des Alten Testaments durch die täuferischen Reformatoren Ludwig Hätzer und Hans Denck) und 1529 die ‚Wormser Bibel‘ (erste protestantische Vollbibel vor Luther und Zwingli) gedruckt. Die Meielburg wurde im Dreißigjährigen Krieg zerstört. Um 1720 entstand hier die Eulenburg, ein barockes Stadtpalais, seit 1840 Wohnsitz von Johann Philipp Bandel (1785–1866), Weinhändler, Kunst- und Antiquitätensammler, Ratsherr und Vorkämpfer der Demokratie in der Revolution 1848 / 1849. Beim Luftangriff am 21. Februar 1945 wurde das Barockpalais zerstört.
