De boom is zijn moeder Myrrha, die na een incestueuze relatie met haar vader Cinyras werd veranderd in een boom. Rond de boom staan Myrrha's min Lucina en de nimfen die voor Adonis zorgen. In de ondermarge vers in het Latijn.
