Svenska: Göteborg radio på Nya Varvet år 1912. Interiör.
English: A marine radiotelegraphy station in the New Shipyard (Nya Varvet) area in Gnistängen near Gothenburg, Sweden in 1912. This communicated with ships using Morse code. From Swedish Wikipedia article Goteborg Radio: Construction began in 1908 in "Gnistängen" inside the New Shipyard area in the Gothenburg city district Kungssten. Test transmissions from the "New Shipyard Wireless Telegraph Station" began in December 1910. The range was about 120 miles during the day and about 200 miles at night. On 18 September 1911, "Gothenburg's spark telegraph station" was opened with the call sign GSG (Gnist Signalstation Göteborg), for public traffic with a 16 kW spark transmitter for long-wave telegraphy . On May 1, 1912, the Telegrafverket took over the station from the Navy, which then became Sweden's first commercial coastal radio station . The call sign GSG was changed on 1 April 1913 to SAB, when international decisions on call signs came into effect. |
