Ömeriye mosque

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The minbar. It seems the stairs have been rolled into the wall and can be extended if needed. Gaziantep’s oldest mosque, it’s date is uncertain, but it may date from around 1150, and is mentioned in a maintenance records book from 1210. It is sometimes named “Ömereyn mosque”, or Atik Mosque, Dapıncak and Darıncak. Its present shape is from 1786 or even 1850. On the minaret bullet marks from the city’s struggle in Turkey’s War of Independence can be seen.
