Belonged to Professor LH Briggs .1.1 mask- stiffened black rubber with metal fittings and splinterless glass eyepieces; head harness is riveted to mask; metal filter canister attached with corrugated rubber tube (11 inches long) covered with green stockinette fabric .1.2- canister- red metal 4A canister (introduced 1940), 5-1-2 inches high; (filled with type E-VI gas scrubbing contents) .2 satchel

Notes British Mk V gas mask and satchel, WW2 Presented by Professor Bob Briggs who, from May 1942 to March 1943, was seconded to the New Zealand Government for the development of nitrogen and mustard gases and the organisation of a New Zealand training course for civilian gas identification officers. Professor Lindsay Heathcote Briggs, DSc DPhil Oxon FRSNZ FNZIC 1956–58 (1905-1975) Known to friends and colleagues as Bob, Professor Briggs researched and lectured in chemistry at Auckland University. He was also a member of the Auckland Museum Institute and a fellow with the Royal Society.
