Summary
[edit]DescriptionGarth Pier, Bangor - geograph.org.uk - 667779.jpg |
English: Garth Pier, Bangor Built in the 1890's, this is a traditional Victorian pier still with its original pavilion and polygonal kiosks. In 1914 the SS Christiana broke free from her moorings and collided with the pier causing considerable damage, but this was repaired. However the pier was closed to the public in 1971 for safety reasons and it was decided to demolish it. The City Council bought it for 1d (one penny) in 1975 and it took the next 13 years to raise funds and complete its restoration. |
