Summary
[edit]DescriptionGarston Lock, Kennet and Avon Canal - geograph.org.uk - 332670.jpg |
English: Garston Lock, Kennet and Avon Canal Garston Lock is the only remaining unrebuilt turf-sided lock on the canal. ALl the locks between Reading and Newbury were built like this to save money in around 1723. The guide rails and guard rails were added at later dates. This view clearly shows the lack of lock walls but instead there is a sloping turf bank which is flooded over when the lock is full. |
