English: This temple survives the flood which rises every year due to heavy rains.
The Garjiya Devi temple stands for the concept of 'Shaktism' in the Hindu Religion. For a world which is primarily patriarchal in nature, this Devi temple strikes a strong chord with the devout who consider the metaphysical reality to be 'feminine' and the Devi (goddess) to be 'supreme'. The temple is situated over a large rock in the Kosi River and is one of the most famous temples of the Nainital district-Ramnagar, visited by thousands of devotees during Kartik Poornima, a Hindu holy day celebrated on the fifteenth lunar day of Kartik (November – December). The temple is also known as the festival of lights of the gods. Three temple is a chief attractor in the district of Nainital. |
