Carmargue fin du XIXè siècle Reconstitution d'une vitrine de la galerie culturelle de l'ancien musée national des arts et traditions populaires (MNATP) Matériaux divers Ensemble d'objets conservés au Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM) à Marseille Cette vitrine est caractéristique de la muséographie de Georges-Henri Rivière, fondateur du MNATP (fils de nylon pour positionner les objets, refus d'utilisation d'un mannequin) Le costume de gardian a été figé en 1900 par les folkloristes, comme ils l'ont fait pour celui de l'Arlésienne. Oeuvre, document ou vitrine présentée dans l'exposition Folklore Centre Pompidou Metz Assimilé à la tradition, et donc en apparence à l’opposé de la notion d’avant-garde, l’univers du folklore, sujet à de multiples controverses, infiltre de différentes manières des pans entiers de la modernité et de la création contemporaine. Loin des clichés d’un passéisme suranné et artificiel, les artistes ont pu y trouver une source d’inspiration, une puissance régénératrice, aussi bien qu’un objet d’analyse critique ou de contestation...
