Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Gaol Ferry Bridge, Bristol, UK. Gaol Ferry Bridge, with St Paul’s Church (Coronation Rd, Southville) in the background, is seen here across the River Avon (The New Cut) from Cumberland Road, Spike Island. The site of the former Bristol gaol, the gatehouse of which can still be seen nearby, gave its name to the former row-boat ferry. The bridge was built in 1935 by David Rowell & Co. of Westminster(1855-1970)who initially produced metal railings and then diversified into wrought iron & wire rope suspension footbridges and structural steel frame buildings.
