Summary
[edit]DescriptionGansu Museum 2007 314.jpg |
English: Bodhisattva. Northern Wei dynasty, 386 - 534 AD. Gansu Provincial Museum
This sculpture comes from Maijishan, a mountain in Gansu that is carved with numerous Buddhist caves. Stylistically the sculptures could be considered as typical Northern Wei, except for their exaggerated sway. They are sculptures in relief, not in round; originally their backs were attached to the cave wall. |
