| Description |
English: Gamekeeper's work On this heather and grass moor there is very little natural grit. To help grouse (and other birds) digest their food, the gamekeeper leaves piles of grit for them to pick up. The birds regurgitate the grit, they don't digest it. The grit can be medicated, if there is a concern about the health of the birds (they pick up all kinds of tummy bugs and ticks). Makes you wonder how they ever coped without all this help. Most piles of grit are on the ground, at intervals of 50 metres or so, but this one is on a flat rock. In the distance the moor and woodland edge can be seen. |
