Description
Deutsch: Brunnen vor der ehemaligen Gaststätte „Gambrinus“ in Nordhausen
  • Die Gaststätte „Gambrinus“ war einst eine beliebte Ausspanne, welche am Eingang des Nordhäuser Stadtparks an der Parkallee 12 lag, heute Bestandteil der B 4. Bekannt wurde die Gaststätte durch den vor dem Objekt stehenden Gambrinus- bzw. Pferdebrunnen, auch Pferdetränke genannt.
  • Auf Initiative des Tierschutzvereins entstand der Brunnen im Jahre 1914 von dem Bildhauer Zinkl. Er besteht aus einem rechteckigen Becken und einem Brunnenaufsatz in der Form eines Obelisken auf einem rechteckigen Sockel. Den oberen Abschluss bildet ein tympanoähnlicher Aufsatz mit einem Gefäß. Oberhalb des Wasserzulaufs befindet sich ein mit Girlanden verziertes, ovales Medaillon mit der Inschrift „Der Gerechte erbarmet sich seines Viehes“.
  • Er diente vor allem den damals noch zahlreich eingesetzten Zugtieren Pferden, Ochsen und auch Kühen als Tränke. „Der Gerechte erbarmet sich seines Viehes“ ist heute noch in Erinnerung an diese Zeit am Brunnen zu lesen. Das Zitat entstammt der Bibel – Die Sprüche Salomos 12.10 – und erinnerte die Fuhrleute daran, zuerst den Tieren Wasser und Futter zu geben, ehe sie sich selbst in die Gaststätte begeben.
