Opis vrste

D.t. 27–31 cm. Areal obuhvata veći deo Evrope, delove centralne i južne Azije, veći deo Afrike južno od Sahare, delove severnoameričkog i južnoameričkog kontinenta. Severne populacije migriraju. Nastanjuje stajaće i sporotekuće vodene ekosisteme sa bogatom priobalnom vegetacijom (bare, močvare, ribnjaci, taložnici otpadnih voda i sl). Gnezda gradi u plitkoj vodi, sakrivena u rastinju trske i rogoza. Hrani se biljkama i različitim sitnim životinjama. Evropska populacija je stabilna. U Srbiji se gnezdi stabilna populacija koja je procenjena na 3.300–4.000 parova (Puzović et al 2003).
