[edit]DescriptionGail Patrick Herbert Marshall Mad About Music 1938.jpg |
Photo from the 1938 film Mad About Music. Pictured are Herbert Marshall and Gail Patrick. The story is that Patrick, a film star, had concealed the fact that she was married and had a daughter. Patrick, now widowed, sent her daughter (Deanna Durbin in the film) to an isolated Swiss girls' boarding school. The girl doesn't have contact with her mother, and becomes increasingly curious about her father, who died when she was still a baby. The girl develops an imaginary father who writes her letters, but is never seen at the school. After being teased at school that her father never existed, she sets out to find a "father" at the local train station. There she picks out Richard Todd (Herbert Marshall), who is an English composer in Switzerland for a holiday. Todd is amused by this and decides to pretend that he is the father of the girl. When the girl lears that her mother will be in Paris, she manages to take a train with Todd picking up the train fare tab, as he was also there on business. When Todd learns who the girl's mother is, he insists that it's time for mother and daughter to be reunited. Patrick's character then has a press conference where she admits to concealing her daughter's existence. This photo is from the scene after the press conference, where Patrick and Todd's characters try to answer reporters' questions. |
