Summary
[edit]DescriptionGWR 4900 Class 4930 Hagley Hall.jpg |
English: First built and entered service in May 1929, 4930 Hagley Hall, which had racked up over 1.2 million miles during its time in service, was one of 11 locomotives of the class to survive the cutters torch in the 1960s (If you count Maindy Hall, which was rebuilt into 2999 Lady of Legend at Didcot). Hagley Hall was placed in Woodham Brothers Scrapyard in 1964 and remained there until being rescued by the Severn Valley Railway and arrived there in 1973, which after several years of undergoing restoration, returned to service in 1979, which it then proceeded to work several railtours on the mainline over the next 6 or 7 years.
In 1986, the locomotive was taken out of service due to several issues with its boiler stays. Over the many years following next, was either stored, or on display at the Swindon Designer Outlet and then the SVR Engine House, before finally having its 2nd preservation overhaul begin in late 2013, which lasted for about 9 years, when Hagley Hall finally returned to operational service on the railway in 2022. |
