Summary
[edit]DescriptionGWR 28xx 2807 passes Hayles Abbey Halt (geograph 5522641).jpg |
English: GWR 28xx 2807 passes Hayles Abbey Halt Built by volunteers in less than 12 months, Hayles Abbey Halt opened on 6th June 2017. It is a perfect replica of the halt opened here in 1928 by the GWR which closed in 1960. The original would have had a second platform as the Honeybourne line was then double track. That apart, the recreation is totally authentic. The locomotive was built in October 1905 and served until March 1963, when it was sent to the legendary Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. It was the 130th engine to leave Barry in June 1981 and was returned to steam in 2010. |
