English: The diagram shows the relative number of occurrences of „dobryj den’”/”dobroho dnja” ‘good afternoon’ by year in the General Regional Annotated Corpus of the Ukrainian Language (GRAC: uacorpus.org), which contains texts from 1818-2023 and has a volume of 1.7 billion tokens (v.17). GRAC is a reference corpus, which means that it is a fairly complete and representative collection of texts on the basis of which one can draw conclusions about the lexical and grammatical variation of the Ukrainian language and its historical development during the XIX-XXI centuries. The diagram shows that the variant „dobryj den’” was earlier, the variant „dobroho dnja” appears in the texts of the corpus from the middle of the XX century, but the variant „dobryj den’” remains the main one until the end of the century. However, in recent years, the variant „dobroho dnja” has been used more and more often. Editors and stylistic experts still do not recommend using the variant „dobroho dnja” (as Prof. O. Ponomariv insisted on), but the corpus data show us such a high frequency of the variant „dobroho dnja” in recent years that these recommendations are obviously outdated.
