Description

This U.S. Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy cargo transport is taking NOAA's GOES-R satellite to Kennedy Space Center on August 22, 2016. Once there, the satellite will be prepared for its next big journey-- its trip to geostationary orbit!

The GOES-R satellite reached another milestone on August 22, 2016 as it flew from Colorado to Florida to prepare for launch on November 4, 2016.

It was stored in a special satellite shipping container and flown Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Shipping a satellite is no small feat. GOES-R is over 18 feet wide and weighs over 6,000 lb!
