Summary
[edit]DescriptionGOC Epping Forest 024 Ambresbury Banks (51297531252).jpg |
Ambresbury Banks, Epping Forest, Waltham Abbey, Essex. An interpretation board says this sit is one of two ancient earthworks in Epping Forest, along with Loughton Camp. Both are believed to have been built around 500 BCE and used by the neighbouring tribes of the Trinovantes and Catuvellauni (though it doesn't state which site belonged to which tribe). The banks would have been 3m high and the ditches 3m deep. Legend has it that Ambresbury Banks was the site of the defeat and death of Boudica in 61 CE. GOC Essex's walk on 17 June 2018. This was a 12.7-mile circular walk mostly in Epping Forest between Epping and Upshire in Essex.
