Summary
[edit]DescriptionGCT Mail Room Door.jpg |
English: In yet another example of the former cooperation between the railroads of the United States and the United States Postal Service, the doorway to the mail room at one of the easternmost platforms of Grand Central Terminal which connects to the Grand Central Annex of the USPS. Despite the modern appearance, this feature dates back to the days when the New York Central Railroad as well as the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad utilized RPO's and other related cars in the mail and baggage facility tracks. In November 2017 I was misdirected by a Metro-North ticket clerk to this platform in order to catch a train to the Metro-North Hudson Line, only for a maintenance worker to redirect me to the correct platform... on the opposite end of the concourse! Also, if you think there's too much glare here, you should see the image I didn't publish. |
