Description Dryopteris expansa—spreading wood fern, Called spreading wood fern for both it's ability to spread over large areas by rhizomes and for the erect habit of the fronds, Circumpolar, but found mostly in coastal counties of California plus the caves of Lava Beds National Monument. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
