Deutsch: Kriegerdenkmal auf dem Dreiecksplatz, ab 1938 Horst-Wessel-Platz, Gütersloh von 1896, Bildhauer Ferdinand Lepcke, Berlin. In WK II abgebaut und verschollen. Das Denkmal war den Gefallenen der Kriege gegen Dänemark, Österreich und Frankreich gewidmet. Es war 4,30 m hoch. An zwei Seiten des Sockels befanden sich die Reliefs der in Bronze gegossenen Brustbilder Kaiser Wilhelm I. und des Reichskanzlers Fürst Bismarck. Eine Marmorplatte enthielt die Namen der Gefallenen in goldenen Buchstaben. Das Denkmal zeigt einen von der Kugel getroffenen Infanteristen, dem in Niedersinken ein Kamerad die Fahne aus der Hand nimmt und dabei mutig vorwärts stürmt. Einweihung am 10. Mai 1896 |
