Ranke (siehe unten) macht mit Rechtdarauf aufmerksam, daß dieser Ansatz im Zu-sammenhang stehe mit den kurzen durchlochtenZapfen, die bei Originalen aus der Frühzeit ausder Kreisfläche herausspringen, und vermutet,daß er zur Befestigung des ,griffartigen Ansatzesdiente, wie ihn die Darstellungen des AltenReiches zeigten. — In seiner Abhandlung ,Dasaltägyptische Schlangenspiel (Sitzungsberichte derHeidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften 1920)hat Ranke alle einschlägigen Fragen ausführlichbehandelt. Einige Bemerkungen seien hauptsäch-lich auf Grund neuer Funde und unserer Dar-stellung hinzugefügt. Zu der fortlaufenden Zahll)ezeiehuung vergleiche man,wie Quibell, The tomb of Hesj, Taf. XI bei dem Spieloben rechts in dem unteren Streifen ein Stäbchen? in daserste Feld eingezeichnet ist; im vierten liegen vier, imzehnten steht vielleicht ein D.
