Description Gígjökull is one of the outlet glaciers of Eyjafjallajökull, which became famous when it erupted earlier this year. The eruption area was not too far from this point, and it is here that the jökulhlaups (glacial bursts) occurred. One can see the gaping hole left behind by one of the jökulhlaup, which left the lagoon at the bottom covered in silt. The river below is covered in ash, the hills are covered in ash, and the glacier is covered in ash. Everything is covered in ash.
