Title
Furniture fitting
Description
English: A Post-Medieval copper-alloy openwork zoomorphic furniture mount, dating to AD 1700 - 1800. The mount is almost trefoil shaped with openwork decoration, it is convex. The mount is highly decorated and consists of multiple elements. At the top of the mount is a small five petalled flower, attached to the lower two petals are three feathers, forming a trilobe. Below the trilobe is an open work sideways figure of eight design consisting of two feathers and two beasts. The two feathers consist of the upper half and are decorated with moulded lines. The lower proportion is decorated with two vertical S shaped beasts which face the centre of the mount, their mouths are open, and they are decorated with moulded lines and an almond shaped eye. At the centre of the figure of eight, linking the feathers and beasts is a small horizontal rectangle decorated with a line of pellets. The lower portion of the mount has a scalloped edge and links the two beasts.
