| Description |
English: Funnel Steps into gorge, Middle Duddon. The boulder garden of 1229983 drops the paddler through a river wide stopper and into this small gorge, whose entry is the reason for the grade IV- grade. From river right, the paddler must turn sharply left, then right to avoid the rock which, alternatively, one can blast straight over as Jim Pullen is doing on this Swaledale Outdoor Club trip (easier in rather higher water than seen here at a very low paddleable level). The rock slows you down and good bracing skills tend to be needed as one drops into the aerated water beyond it with no forward speed ! |
