Description

Ce funiculaire a été construit en 1907 pour la Société des Eaux pour amener des clients vraiment très fortunés de la buvette Cachat à l'Hôtel Royal.

En 1913 il fut prolongé par la construction d'un souterrain entre la buvette Cachat et les Bains d'Evian en partie basse et vers Neuvecelle au delà de l'hôtel Royal.

Comme bien des systèmes de transports collectifs, son exploitation fut abandonnée en 1969. Après son classement comme monument historique et la décision par la municipalité d'Evian de le restaurer il a repris du service le 21 juin 2002.

Si sa longueur initiale était de 357mètres, le prolongement de 1913 l'a portée à 750 mètres pour dénivellation de 121 mètres.
