Description
English: Fungus on a veteran tree A polypore fungus seen growing on the lower part of a veteran oak tree. This is probably Beefsteak or Raw Beef fungus [fistulina hepatica] which is commonly found on dead or dying oak and chestnut trees. In this case it is an indicator of the extreme age of the tree, and is one of the contributory factors as to why very old trees can become hollow over time
