[edit]DescriptionFume hood and table of elements, early XX century Gdansk University of Technology.jpg |
English: Picture taken in the authentic interior of the historic auditorium of the Chemical Department of the Gdańsk University of Technology from 1904. The view from the student's place in the foreground shows the student's desktop with space for the inkwell and a dip pen support. In the background there is a cathedral, designed for demonstrations of chemical experiments (equipped with water and gas connections, sewage disposal, retractable window shields protecting the audience against the effects of an explosion, etc.), behind which is a historic laboratory fume hood enabling safe presentation of various chemical experiments and painted on the wall periodic table of elements representing knowledge from the beginning of the 20th century. The auditorium with excellent acoustics, allowing a person with not very loud voice to be heard by over 120 listeners, with natural ventilation, had high windows that perfectly illuminate the interior from both sides while allowing the complete darkening if needed of the interior by means of blinds moved from 1904 to the present day.
