Español: Una de las fuentes conocidas popularmente como fuentes de la Olla, en la plaza Demófilo Peláez, en el barrio de El Palo, Málaga, España. Esta fuente fue una de las numerosas fuentes públicas que se crearon para complementar la red de distribución de agua con posterioridad a la llegada de las aguas procedentes de los manantiales de Torremolinos a Málaga, el 19 de junio de 1876. El ingeniero José María de Sancha fue el director facultativo de aquellas obras, iniciadas el 28 de noviembre de 1870 sobre un proyecto de Joaquín Pérez de Rozas y José Morer y Abril, redactado en 1866 (Olmedo Checa, M. (1998). José María de Sancha: Precursor del urbanismo malagueño. Málaga: Benedito). Sancha también se encargó de la instalación y diseño de las fuentes, todas con idéntica factura y coronadas con una característica crátera griega, motivo por el cual fueron conocidas por los malagueños como «las fuentes de la Olla». Actualmente solo se conservaban dos de las antiguas fuentes de la Olla, la situada en plaza de Montes (o plaza Montes), en el barrio de La Trinidad,[1] y la que se encuentra en la plaza Demófilo Peláez, en El Palo.[2] Esta última fuente estuvo originalmente instalada en La Malagueta, siendo a partir de 1961 reubicada en la plaza del Carbón, donde estuvo hasta el año 2005, cuando se remodeló la plaza y la fuente fue sustituida por otra de diseño más moderno. Tras un tiempo en los almacenes municipales, en el año 2012 se colocó en su actual emplazamiento como elemento decorativo de la plaza Demófilo Peláez, también conocida como plaza de las Cuatro Esquinas, en El Palo.[3] La fuente consta de un vástago hexagonal con dos soportes planos para sustentar los cántaros y otros tantos surtidores con forma de mascarón. Estos mascarones fueron recuperados durante el proceso de restauración previo a su reubicación siguiendo los dibujos del ingeniero José María de Sancha y fotografías antiguas. |
