Summary
[edit]DescriptionFt-Heath-AP-c1921-SEly.jpg |
English: This undated photo of Ft. Heath,(Grovers Cliff) Winthrop, MA, taken by the U.S. Army, was likely made about 1921, judging from the apparent construction activity near the barracks at center. It looks southeasterly and shows Battery Winthrop at center-left, with its three 12-inch Coast Artillery guns visible on their disappearing carriages.
The small building that looks like a series of offset blocks, located just north of the north end of the battery, is the three-position fire control structure that spotted for Btty Winthrop and also for the mortars of Btty Kellogg and Btty Lincoln at Ft. Banks, also in Winthrop, MA. The rectangular building between the two nearest guns of the battery (Gun 2 and Gun 3) held the plotting room for the guns as well as a storehouse. |
