Description
English: From the September 3, 1938 issue of the News and Observer: "General Superintendent LeRoy F. Alford Has been with The News and Observer longer than any other man except Publisher Josephus Daniels, joining the paper as an expert in the care and operation of Linotype machines back in 1894 when The News and Observer purchased the first three line-type machines ever bought in this state. Alford came to the paper when it had three Linotype machines in a dingy composing room and used a flat bed press to print its 1800 circulation. He is now in supervisory charge of all the mechanical and physical facilities of the paper."
