Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "Data from the International Comprehensive Ocean Atmosphere Data Set for each 20-year period since 1860. Colour shading indicates the percentage of months with at least one measurement in a 2o latitude by 2o longitude grid box. Note very sparse observations of especially the critical ENSO regions in the central Pacific Ocean from 1860–1899 with still few observations for the Southern Oceans up to 1980. Figure adapted with permission from [Deser, C., Alexander, M. A., Xie, S.-P. & Phillips, A. S. Sea surface temperature variability: patterns and mechanisms. Annual Reviews Mar. Sci. 2, 115–143 (2010).]"
