Description
Deutsch: Campo Santo, Familienfriedhof der Humboldts auf dem Anwesen der Familie in Tegel (Berlin/Deutschland). Als 1829 Caroline von Humboldt verstarb, ließ ihr Gatte Wilhelm eine ca. 5 Meter hohe ionische Phorphyrsäule aufstellen. Auf der Säule steht eine weiße Marmorskulptur der ("Spes"= lat. "Hoffnung", der römischen Göttin, die die Hoffnung personifiziert) für die Caroline noch zu Lebzeiten in Rom bei dem dänischen Bildhauer Bertel Thorvaldsen Modell stand.
English: Campo Santo, the burial site of the Humboldt family in Tegel (Berlin/Germany). When in 1829 Caroline von Humboldt died, her husband Wilhelm prompted the erection of an Ionic column of porphyritic granite of ca. 5 metre height. On top there is a marble statue of Caroline by Bertel Thorvaldsen symbolising the Roman goddess Spes (= Latin for "hope"), for which Caroline herself acted as model when she had earlier (by 1817) visited Rome, but only finished in 1831.
