Description
  • Die Frithjofssage (is.

Aktien-Gesellschaft Gladenbeck
in Berlin-Friedrichshagen

English: Moumental statue of the saga king Frithiof the Bold (Norse: Friðþjófr hinn frœkni, Norwegian: Fridtjof/Fridtjov den frøkne) in Vangsnes, Norway, created by the German sculptor Max Unger (1854–1918) between 1910 and 1912 and donated by kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany.
  • Fridtjov was the son of Torstein Vikingson, according to the Icelandic Frithiof's Saga (Friðþjófs saga ins frækna) from the 14th century. He also gained fame through the Swedish writer Esaias Tegnér's partial paraphrase in form of epic poetry pulished in 1820. The sculpture of Fridtjof is a landmark which towers 22.5 metres (74 ft) over the hilltop. It stands in a park overlooking the Sognefjord.
  • A private photograph likely taken by Knut Lind around 1941, from a photo collection from the Lind family, where several male members had prominent positions in Østlandske Petroleumskompani (later Esso Norge).
