Unterschrift zu diesem Bild Gespräch eines Juden zu Cassel bey Mayntz mit einem eingebildeten Freyheits -Mann über den Freyheitsbaum im Jänner 1793:

Jud: Gottes Wunder, was ist das, darf ich lieber Herr wohl fragen, was allhier doch dieser Baum möcht bedeiten oder sagen? Freyheitsmann: Dummer Jud in Israel, must beynahe keiner seyn, der vom Edlen Freyheitsbaum, Nachricht nicht gezogen ein. Sieh den edlen Nektarsaft, so aus selben sich ergießet, der für dich als wie für mich kraft der Gleichheit lauft und fließet. Sieh wie sie voller Lust und Freud jauchzen und die Hüte schwingen. Siehst du jene Kappe dort, diese Pracht der Freyheitsbrüder, auf mein Jud, tanz mit herum und erhebe deine Glieder. Jud: Gottes Wunder lieber Herr, das kann ich nicht sehen ein. Denn es dünkt mich dieser Baum, in dem Grund nicht fest zu sein. Er hat keine Wurzel nicht, kann also keine Früchte tragen. Und was will dann eine Kappe ohne Kopf und Hirn sagen. Auch der süsse Nektarsaft, reißt im Taumel sie nur hin, kost vielleicht sie Hab und Gut und verwirret ihren Sinn. Einmal Herr für allemal, ich muß ihnen frey gestehen, das die Frey- und Gleichheit mir, nicht in meinen Kopf will gehen. Freyheitsmann: Mauschel schweig und halt das Maul, fliehe meine Gegenwart, sonst möchte ich im Eifer noch, dich ergreifen bey dem Bart. Jud: Ja Herr alle meine Haar, darfen sie am Bart ausreisen, wenn der Freyheitsbaum besteht, doch die Zeit wird alles weisen.
