Description
Español: Fresco funerario con escenas de luchas. Procedncia: Paestum, Necrópolis "Vanullo". Tumba II. Siglo IV a. C. Travertino con superficie pintada. Parque Arqueológico de Paestum y Velia.

A la izquierda, luchan dos boxeadores desnudos; en el centro dos duelistas se baten con lanzas. Un hombre a la derecha, representado de perfil y orientado hacia las luchas, sostiene una corona, tal vez destinada a los vencedores.

Este fresco recuperado de una tumba de Paestum atestigua los antiguos orígenes del fenómno de los gladiadores en la región italiana de Campania como parte de los ritos funerarios. Paestum que fue una importante ciduad griega y luego romana, es hoy un relevante yacimiento arqueológico cerca de Salerno.
