Faunesse et Enfants. By Clodin.(Alusee Ciutiy.) women moving beneath a Sphere Celeste, garlanded with Theflowers, which is now in the collection of M. Jacques Doucet,1 pj^iig?*and if we would see the most serious aspect of his supple genius, jean-we have but to go to South Kensington and there visit the Antoineboudoir of that Mme. de Serilly, whose bust, by Houdon, figured andu nat the Salon of 1783. There are many works by Clodion of this Claudeclass,2 but nothing more noble and distinguished than the grave q^/q^q1^^ Termes who support the marble chimney-piece of this beautifulroom. The profound sentiment of these figures is echoed in thenymphs who, accompanied by sea monsters of admirable spirit,figure in the bas-relief of the Triomphe de lAphrodite which—lent from the Haviland Collection—is now to be seen atthe exhibition in the Petit Palais. One cannot exaggerate thevalue of the opportunity, afforded by this gathering, of appreciat-ing the extraordinary suppleness of Clodions
