Description
English: French Royal Arms

Flag with the French Royal Arms associated with HMS 'Hebrus', Captain Edmund Palmer, at Bordeaux on the restoration of the Bourbon Dynasty, July 1815. A white, hand-sewn linen flag, painted with a blue oval bearing three fleur-de-lis (the arms of France), surrounded by an olive wreath with a royal crown above. The flag is double-sided. In 1815 Palmer commanded a small expedition sent to arm and organize the French Royalists forces in the Bordeaux area. The campaign was ended by news of Napoleon's surrender and Palmer was involved in peace keeping in Bordeaux prior to the disbandment of the Napoleonic troops. The flag was presented to the Royal Naval Museum, by Edmund Palmer's grandson Henry Palmer.
