Simeon with the Christ Child |

Description |
English: This plaque, which may have been attached to an altar frontal (panel), was originally part of a scene of the Presentation in the Temple. According to the Gospel of Luke, the holy man Simeon was in the temple when the Christ Child was revealed to him as the Messiah, the savior of the world. The style of the drapery, with its deep folds, is similar to that of sculpture on Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. |
