Summary
[edit]DescriptionFreight train over Hawk Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 1627932.jpg |
English: Freight train over Hawk Bridge A freight train hauled by EMD Class 66/7 diesel locomotive 'METRO-LAND' (number 66719) in the dark blue, orange and yellow livery of GB Railfreight passes over Hawk Bridge (on the Ely to Newmarket line), approaching Dock Junction south of Ely station.
GB Railfreight - owned by First Group (First Great Western) - entered the freight haulage business in mid 2001, and is one of three British operators using Class 66 locos, 12 of which are in GBRf service at present. These locos are the same as the EWS 66/0s > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1604035 and Freightliner 66/5s but have their own classification due to a different owner. The bridge replaces an older one > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/471655 which was severely damaged by a freight train in 2007: "Eleven wagons were left hanging over the Hawk Bridge on the River Ouse when the EWS freight train derailed between Ely Dock Junction and Soham on June 22, 2007. The railway line between Ely and Bury St Edmunds and the affected stretch of the river were closed to traffic for six months following the derailment." http://www.newmarketjournal.co.uk/soham/Ely-train-crash-report-released.4946944.jp |
