English: Free Trade Hall, Peter Street Built in 1853-56 on the site of the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 and was built as a permanent Public Building for the purpose of instruction and amusement in literary, religious and musical instruction, the architect was Edward Arnold an expert of the Pallazzo style, in 1940 the building was reduced to a shell during the blitz and was then reconstructed and reopened in 1951 as Manchesters main auditorium until 1996 when Bridgewater Hall was opened, now converted into a quality hotel. |
