Summary
[edit]DescriptionFree-range hens at Castle Farm, Raglan - geograph.org.uk - 1531231.jpg |
English: Free-range hens at Castle Farm, Raglan Castle Farm stands on the east side of Raglan Castle in Monmouthshire. The large main house dates from the 1660s, around the time of the English Civil War during which the neighbouring castle was besieged and extensively damaged.
The main house is unusual in being built entirely of brick - most building was of stone in Monmouthshire at the time. An archway through the east end of the main house leads into a quardrangle courtyard. The outbuildings around the courtyard form a small business centre. There is also a small cafe at Castle Farm, very welcome to people visiting the castle itself which has no refreshment facilities. The working farm buildings and yard are south of the courtyard. Access to Castle Farm is up a signposted lane off the eastbound carriageway of the A40 trunk road half-a-mile north of the village of Raglan. |
