Die Inschrift auf der eingelassenen Steintafel lautet: "Am 17. Mai 1743 wurden von österreichischen Truppen 7000 Mann hier in quartierliegende Franzosen in die Flucht geschlagen und die Stadt in Brand gesteckt, wobei 306 Gebäude zu Grunde gingen. Die gefallenen Krieger, bei 600 an der Zahl, größtenteils Franzosen, liegen in der Nähe dieses Denksteines begraben."
