Stefano Tumidei daterer (i Paysages d'Italie, 2001) af stilistiske grunde maleriet til anden halvdel af 1820'erne, også med henvisning til, at maleriets første ejer Johan Bravo ankom til Rom i 1826 [rent faktisk i 1827]. Andreas Stolzenburg (2015) støtter den traditionelle datering, dvs. 1820-21.
