Description

Deutsch: Frankfurt am Main: Haus Minerva, benannt nach der Göttin Minerva (siehe Dachfigur) an der Zeil, links das Weidengäßchen. Architekt und Bauunternehmer war der Frankfurter Eugen Greiß (1856-1925). Seine Baufirma galt seinerzeit als eine der bedeutendsten der Stadt. Er war maßgeblich an der Bebauung des Bahnhofsviertels beteiligt. Schätzungen zufolge stammt ein Zwanzigstel der Gebäude von ihm. Sein Schwerpunkt lag dabei auf der Errichtung repräsentativer und palastartiger Wohn- sowie Geschäftsbauten in Neobarock und Neorenaissance. Auf diesem Foto von 1905 sieht man im Erdgeschoß noch das Ladengeschäft des Kaufhauses M. Schneider. Ab 1936 richtete sich das Textilkaufhaus Peek & Cloppenburg in den Häusern Böhler und Minerva neben der Hauptpost ein. Im Krieg verlor das Haus Minerva nur das Dach. Später entstand auf dieser Parzelle die bereits wieder abgetragene sog. Zeilgalerie des Bauinvestors Jürgen Schneider.
