[edit]Bendergasse in der Altstadt von Frankfurt am Main, von einer echtfotografischen Postkarte um 1910, gescannt.
Dieser Blick in die Jahrhunderte lang als Sitz des Handwerks dienende Altstadtgasse dürfte von einem Standpunkt kurz hinter der Quergasse Lange Schirn entstanden sein. Sie verband die Bendergasse nach Norden mit dem Alten Markt, nach Süden mit der Saalgasse. Im Bild schauen wir in Ostrichtung auf den Ausgang der Bendergasse am Krautmarkt, nur wenig dahinter erhebt sich der Frankfurter Dom.
Charakteristisch für das Bild der Gasse sind die aufgrund des Platzmangels nach und nach, Stockwerk um Stockwerk immer höher gebauten, zu dieser Zeit fast ausschließlich verputzten Fachwerkbauten mit teils enormen Überhang. Diese enge Bauweise ließ nur sehr wenig natürliches Licht in derart gebaute Straßenzüge hinein. Im Bild ist dies gut zu sehen, obwohl es, wie wir an der Uhr des Doms ablesen können, zur Mittagszeit und somit bei fast senkrechtem Einfallswinkel entstand.
Die neben dem Alten Markt und der Saalgasse längste und bekannteste Fachwerkhäuserzeile Frankfurts wurde im 2. Weltkrieg durch die für das hölzerne Baumaterial fatale Wirkung von Brandbomben innerhalb nur weniger Stunden vollständig zerstört.
Das Bild stammt höchstwahrscheinlich von Carl Friedrich Mylius, der 1916 verstarb - urheberrechtliche Ansprüche dürften aufgrund des Alters erloschen sein.
