Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The dual role of the chateau, both defensive and offensive, may be seen here. There was still the 13th century enclosure with its gateways and towers with their conic roofs. The defences of the two gates, the Town Gate and the Field Gate, were bolstered by the addition of massive bastions outside.

Around the seigniorial courtyard lay the Count's Hall (substantially modified by the creation of giant rectangular windows), the Saint Laud Chapel, the residence, and the outbuildings linking the kitchens to the fortified gateway built by King Rene in 1450.

The main chapel was built by Louis II and Yolande of Aragon from 1403. The royal residence built by King Rene in the mid-15th century was built along the same axis.

Various buildings (not shown on the model) and the domestic and exotic animals of a menagerie were to be found in the gardens of King Rene. The residence with its staircase tower, near the Field Gate, was used as a residence by the Governor, who was appointed to run Anjou by the King of France once the area had become part of the kingdom.
